Gentle Teaching Lv.3 - Being Trauma Informed (Histories and Memories)
Summary
The Gentle Teaching Level 3 training modules are uniquely designed to deepen one’s knowledge in key aspects of Gentle Teaching. These modules include:
- The Importance of Language
- Being Trauma Informed (Histories and Memories)
- Relationship Building (How to)
- Stretching and Lowering Demands
- Transitions and Structure
Each module is approximately 3-4 hours in duration and are built off concepts learned in Gentle Teaching Level 1 & 2 training modules. Sessions are interactive and explore challenging and frequently asked questions, allowing for a deeper dive into common areas of struggle through critical thinking and discussion with others that are experienced in supporting within a culture of gentleness.
Key Messages
- To equip support personnel, educators, social workers and others who have completed Gentle Teaching Level 2 with a deeper understanding and personalized, practical application of the Gentle Teaching pillars and tools.
- To train those interested in furthering their understanding of Gentle Teaching with additional knowledge and hands on tools that will challenge their ability to think creatively, self-analyze and strengthen their understanding of other peoples’ (person served) perspectives.
Being Trauma Informed (Histories and Memories)
This half-day session focuses on how one’s history and memories leave a lasting impact on a person. Developed in partnership with Dr. Karyn Harvey, this interactive session will illustrate that being trauma-informed is not just for the people we support, but for everyone. It will explore how small and large traumas in our lives affect us as people. More importantly, the session will explore the key to healing in our day-to-day lives – the importance of nurturing meaningful relationships. Participants will learn practical skills for direct support and develop a deeper understanding of trauma-informed and trauma responsive support.

- Identify and be sensitive to the trauma that many people have experienced and how that trauma impacts brain functioning
- Understand and support the key ingredients to healing
- Implement practices that support self-care
