Summary
COR's Personal Care Health Training focuses on providing an introduction on how to effectively take care of another person's basic needs. The training covers a broad range of topics from the importance of consent, proper infection control procedures, providing assistance with daily hygiene, foot care, and prevention of pressure sores and rashes, along with toileting/changing attends.
Learning Goals and Objectives
- Hierarchy of needs
- Informed consent, confidentiality and privacy/dignity
- Infection control and universal precautions
- Providing assistance with daily hygiene, such as: brushing teeth, hand hygiene, toileting/changing attends, and perineal care
- Review of TLR (transferring, lifting and repositioning)
- Prevention of pressure sores and rashes, including signs and symptoms of infection
- Providing basic foot care
- Nutrition for those with higher needs
- Bowel and elimination care
There will also be discussion about aging and disabilities, fall prevention, how to properly take vital signs (such as blood pressure or oxygen saturations) and how to assess for pain.
