Summary

The Gentle Teaching Level 3 training modules are uniquely designed to deepen one’s knowledge in key aspects of Gentle Teaching. These modules include:

  1. The Importance of Language
  2. Being Trauma Informed (Histories and Memories)
  3. Relationship Building (How to)
  4. Stretching and Lowering Demands
  5. Transitions and Structure
Each module is approximately 3-4 hours in duration and are built off concepts learned in Gentle Teaching Level 1 & 2 training modules. Sessions are interactive and explore challenging and frequently asked questions, allowing for a deeper dive into common areas of struggle through critical thinking and discussion with others that are experienced in supporting within a culture of gentleness.

Key Messages

  1. To equip support personnel, educators, social workers and others who have completed Gentle Teaching Level 2 with a deeper understanding and personalized, practical application of the Gentle Teaching pillars and tools.
  2. To train those interested in furthering their understanding of Gentle Teaching with additional knowledge and hands on tools that will challenge their ability to think creatively, self-analyze and strengthen their understanding of other peoples’ (person served) perspectives.

Stretching & Lowering Demands

The interactive two-part session seeks to address some of the most frequently asked questions within a Culture of Gentleness. The session will focuses on increasing a caregiver’s skill in recognizing when the relationship between person-supported and caregiver is ready to allow for opportunities to stretch (grow) an individual’s personal boundaries/experiences; further, it will explore lowering caregiver demands, and how to move through these moments while affirming interactions that focus on a person’s value.

Learning Objectives (Part 1):

  1. Defining Stretching (what)
  2. Exploring the benefits of healthy Stretching within the context of any given relationship
  3. Stretching the band (how)
  4. OH…Snap! Looking at various opportunities of how to accurately acknowledge the outcome.
  5. Assessing ourselves

Learning Objectives (Part 2):

  1. Defining ‘Demands’; what a “perceived demand” is and how it can be internally/externally portrayed
  2. Ways to help decrease the demands we place on others
  3. How the simple word “should” can be an incredible burden on people
  4. Starting small in order to see BIG; how focusing on removing a small demand (stressor) will help aid a snowball effect
